A transfer window marred with almost ‘superficial’ implications has ended on a very high note for Manchester United fans as the long-awaited homecoming of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo is now a reality.

Manchester United have secured the signature of 36-year-old Ronaldo from Juventus for a reported fee of €15 million with €8 million in add-on fees. Manchester City were also interested in the player but ultimately pulled out of negotiations for undisclosed reasons.

Ronaldo has left Juventus after three seasons with the ‘Bianconeri’ after having scored 101 goals and winning 5 major trophies with the Turin giants. He also bagged the coveted ‘Capocannoniere’ individual trophy in the 2019/20 season where he was the top scorer for Juventus with 29 goals in the Serie A.

CR7 is returning to Manchester with quite a decorated collection of successes. While at Manchester United, Rolando had a record-breaking 2007/08 season where he netted a total of 42 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions. During his time he also won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and was crowned the 2008 Ballon d’Or winner.

Although the team sheet will be slightly different in the 2021/2022 season, Ronaldo should be excited for his newest teammates joining him. Along with the Portuguese all time great, Manchester United have had an incredible transfer window signing the likes of Jadon Sancho and fellow ex-Real Madrid teammate of Ronaldo’s, Rapheal Varane.

It’s safe to say that Manchester United are buzzing to unveil him in the iconic ‘Red’ shirt but the fans may have to wait just a little bit more for his second debut which will likely be against Newcastle United on September 11th after the international break.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently in Lisbon to complete his medical and will be presented as a Manchester United player in the coming days. Until then, the echoes of ‘Viva Ronaldo’ will be heard all over Manchester as the Stretford End welcomes back one of their own.
