Ones To Watch: Keepers - Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup

(Rania Elhilali/The Intermission Sports)

In a star-studded tournament like the FIFA World Cup, a lot of attention tends to fall on the eyes of the strikers to score magnificent goals. That being said, it's time to give attention to the goalkeepers who have the possibility of changing the game's outcome with a one-handed save. So with this upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, the best of the best keepers will be on guard for their national duties to help separate their team from the rest. Among all the keepers taking the trip to Qatar this coming month here are some of the best goalkeepers who will represent their countries during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Thibaut Courtois:

(beIN SPORTS)

Starting with the recently awarded Yashin trophy by France Football for last season's performance with Real Madrid that helped them lift both La Liga and the Champions League, we have Thibaut Courtois. It is a clear sign that Courtois will be the first-choice keeper for Belgian coach Roberto Martinez. Courtois will look to improve from his last World Cup performances in 2018, where he and the Belgian squad finished third. One can definitely look forward to some spectacular saves and deflects from Courtois going forward.

Emiliano Martinez

(Planet Football)

Second is Emiliano Martinez who certainly deserves the attention as he is among his fellow Argentintine teammates who will look to continue the immense success they have built thus far. Martinez was an essential piece in Argentina’s Copa America 2021 run where Argentina lifted the trophy after a 1-0 victory. This tournament was a clear showing of what the Argentine keeper is capable of doing. His performance throughout the tournament awarded him the best keeper award in the tournament as well. Martinez will look to extend his current well-in-form performances with the current form of the national team remaining unbeaten 35 games straight, Martinez will be of utmost importance for one to keep an eye on.

Alisson Becker and Ederson Moraes

(Goal.com)

Brazilian national team coach Tite will have two incredible talents to choose from for who to start in goal this coming tournament. Both Alisson Becker and Ederson Moraes have displayed at club level the reason why they are first-choice keepers for Brazil. Both have been successful keepers that have been part of the two Premier League sides that have dominated the league for the past five years. So whoever Coach Tite decides to start on the lineup either keeper has more than all the skill and ability to fend the net making it so difficult to score on. The duo will definitely be one to watch this World Cup as both goalies mean business and have successful club careers to back that up and credit their place on the squad.

Marc- Andre Ter Stegen

(Bavarian Football Works)

This World Cup will, in fact, be Marc-Andre Ter Stegen's first-ever performance at a World Cup as Germany's first option has always been the unstoppable Manuel Neuer. Yet, heading into this World cup, German head coach Hansi Flick will have the option of both keepers and Ter Stegen’s goal-saving resume speaks for itself. So if coach Flick decides to give the FC Barcelona keeper the chance to defend the net of Die Mannschaft, his performance should be one to watch as he will have something to prove as he takes on the shoes that Neuer first set in the 2014 World cup final.

So with the tournament right around the corner, those are just a few keepers that you should keep in mind as they play their part in representing their nation and fight for a star above the national crest.
