Diffusing Dynamite Oct. 7

(AEW)

The Oct. 7 edition of AEW Dynamite was highlighted by a TNT Championship Dog Collar Match with Mr. Brodie Lee defending against Cody.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) had a very special show planned for this Wednesday, as they were celebrating 30 years of Chris Jericho. To celebrate, Jericho would be teaming up with Jake Hager to take on his long-time friend Luther and Serpentico in the main event.

Also on the card was FTR’s second 20-minute brush with greatness for the AEW Tag Team Championships against TH2, and Big Swole would take on Serena Deeb. Brian Cage defended his FTW Championship against the young star, WIll Hobbs, and Mr. Brodie Lee would defend his TNT Championship in a dog collar match against Cody.

As always Joseph Casciaro and Gavin Axelrod have the full scoop on the show, keep reading to see all our takes.

Will Hobbs looked great in defeat

(AEW)

In the opening match of the show, Brian Cage defended his FTW Championship against Will Hobbs. It would ultimately end up being Cage coming out on top, which was expected, but Hobbs looked great in defeat.

Hobbs was able to get in a good amount of offence and he pushed Cage to the limit. He even managed to gain the respect of Cage’s manager, the legend Taz.

Taz even offered Hobbs a spot in Team Taz after the match, and if he didn’t accept the offer Cage and Ricky Starks would attack him. Before Hobbs was able to answer, Darby Allin made the save running to the ring. Will Hobbs join Team Taz? I guess we will find out soon.

Hiroshi Tanahashi on Dynamite?!

(NJPW)

To celebrate 30 years of Chris Jericho, AEW was airing messages from some close friends of Jericho throughout the night. Oddly enough a familiar face popped up in one of these montages, and it was New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) legend and star, Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Could this be some foreshadowing of a future working relationship between AEW and NJPW? Gavin and I sure hope the forbidden door has been opened and if we can see Tanahashi in AEW, we will be two very happy fans.

Best Friends step up to FTR

(AEW)

FTR was able to successfully defend their AEW World Tag Team Championship in a ‘Brush With Greatness,’ against TH2. Following the match, they were greeted on the stage by Best Friends.

They announced that next week on the very special one-year anniversary show of Dynamite, they would be challenging FTR for AEW Tag Team Championships.

Cody is a two-time champ after a brutal Dog Collar Match

(AEW)

Cody and Mr. Brodie Lee put on one of the best matches on Dynamite ever, as they locked horns in a heated dog-collar match for the TNT Championship. To the shock of all, Cody was able to overcome the Exalted One and become the first-ever two-time champion in AEW’s history.

This match was as brutal as could be, it had everything you could imagine from a package piledriver through a table to Cody choking Lee with the dog collar. Both were bleeding profusely through the entire match, and I loved the whole thing.

The finish was done in a way to make Brodie Lee look strong in defeat, and it took all Cody had to keep him down for a three-count. With Cody back on top holding the TNT Championship, he said he would be defending his title next week on the anniversary show.

So, next week Cody will defend his newly won TNT Championship against ‘Freshly Squeezed’ Orange Cassidy. Some people may love this decision, but for Gavin and me it’s been a little too much OC recently.

AEW Championship #1 Contender’s tournament

(AEW)

AEW announced last week that there would be a number one contender’s tournament for the AEW Championship. The first few competitors were announced last week in Kenny Omega, Jungle Boy, and Rey Fenix.

The next three competitors were announced this week and they were Colt Cabana, Wardlow, and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page. The main takeaway from this is we might see the former tag team of Omega and Page meet in singles action.

Omega then had an interview and completely discredited Hangman, he guaranteed he would win the tournament and said he wasn’t too worried about a ‘tag team wrestler’ like Page. The Elite seems already beyond repair, but I really expect it to blow up even more during this tournament.

MJF interrupts Jericho’s celebration

(AEW)

Chris Jericho was able to close his 30-year celebration by winning his tag match alongside Jake Hager. After the match, he went to thank the fans, but he was oddly interrupted by Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF).

MJF came out with two gifts for Jericho, one was a clown and the other was a portrait of MJF. Jericho didn’t seem to like either gift, he smashed the picture over the clown’s head and then hit the clown with a Judas Effect.

MJF also announced during this segment he’d be making a career-altering announcement next week and wanted Jericho in the ring for it. Jericho seemed very upset about MJF interrupting him, but that ended up being a joke?

Dynamite then went off the air with Jericho, MJF, Wardlow, the Inner Circle, and all the heels of the AEW roster celebrating Jericho!

Next Week: It’s AEW’s one-year anniversary show featuring Jon Moxley vs Lance Archer for the AEW Championship, Cody vs Orange Cassidy for the TNT Championship, FTR vs Best Friends for the AEW Tag Team Championships, and MJF’s big announcement.
