Diffusing Dynamite May 12

The May 12 edition of Dynamite was highlighted by a trio of title matches

(AEW)

All Elite Wrestling pulled out all the stops Wednesday night for another action-packed episode of Dynamite. Jon Moxley defended the IWGP United States Championship against Yuji Nagata, SCU took on The Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Team Championships and Darby Allin defended the TNT Title against Miro.

Elsewhere on the card we heard from the Pinnacle after their win at Blood and Guts and Orange Cassidy and PAC duked it out for the chance to face Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing. Britt Baker sat down with Jim Ross before her match at the upcoming pay-per-view and Cody announced that he’d be facing Anthony Ogogo at Double or Nothing.

As always Gavin Axelrod and Joseph Casciaro have you covered on all things Dynamite!

Moxley and Nagata bring Strong Style to Dynamite

The show’s opening bout saw New Japan Pro-Wrestling legend Yuji Nagata take on Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship. It was a hard hitting affair and one of the most brutal singles matches we’ve ever seen on Dynamite.

Nagata wasn’t the only NJPW representative to show up Wednesday though. He was accompanied to the ring by Ren Narita who is currently training at the LA Dojo and NJPW star Rocky Romero was in attendance.

Former champion Lance Archer also had his eyes on this match. Could a clash between himself and Moxley be on the horizon?

Back in the ring Nagta and Moxley repeatedly exchanged open hand palm strikes, kicks and elbows. However, in the end, it was Moxley who retained his title by hitting a Death Rider for the pin and win.

After the match, Moxley bowed in a sign of respect and his opponent followed suit to acknowledge his respect for the champion.

SCU later

The final chapter in the team of SCU was written Wednesday night when they failed to beat The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. It was a great match, but unfortunately not the result many had hoped for.

SCU’s defeat was hardly a clean one as Doc Gallows provided a distraction at ringside and they were both attacked with cold spray.

Even a bloodied Christopher Daniels couldn’t fend off a BTE Trigger from the champions. Try as he might, Frankie Kazarian was unable to break up the three count as Nick Jackson held him back.

Unfortunately the tag team run of Daniels and Kazarian came to an end and the show didn’t even give them a proper send-off.

It takes three to tango

Orange Cassidy and PAC put on another excellent match Wednesday to determine who would face Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing. The two wrestlers have amazing chemistry and their rivalry could be compared to two siblings who absolutely despise each other.

At around the 13-minute mark of the match, Orange Cassidy appeared to get his bell rung and many at home wondered if he would be able to compete. After a commercial break, Kenny Omega did a run-in and hit PAC with his title while the referee, Aubrey Edwards wasn’t watching.

Both Cassidy and PAC were unable to make it to their feet and the match was declared a no contest. Omega laughed from the outside and Don Callis suggested the two should take a road trip.

But the party was short-lived, as Tony Schiavone announced to the world that Omega would face Cassidy and PAC in a three-way match at Double or Nothing. This marks the first time the AEW World Championship will be defended in the previously mentioned match type.

Coronation of The Pinnacle

(AEW)

In what turned out to be a giant product placement segment for Chris Jericho's champagne line, The Pinnacle was doused in a lot of “the bubbly” on Dynamite. After MJF denied The Inner Circle their rematch, the group made their way to the ring in a vehicle hauling a trailer of champagne behind it.

After getting his suit ruined by The Inner Circle’s antics MJF agreed to a rematch with the group. He said that the two factions would be facing off in the second-ever Stadium Stampede Match and if The Inner Circle loses, they must disband forever.

Miro vs Darby Allin in the main event

(AEW)

A new TNT Champion was crowned Wednesday in a high octane clash between Miro and Darby Allin.

The match had everything from hard-hitting spots to nail-biting false finishes. At one point it looked like Miro was going to decimate his opponent in seconds, but Allin refused to go down without a fight.

Allin used his arsenal of submissions, dives, stunners and even attempted to hit the Coffin Drop on Miro, but it led to his downfall. Miro caught Allin and instantly locked him into a submission hold.

The referee asked Allin if he could continue and when he didn’t respond, Miro was crowned the new TNT Champion.

After the match, Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky tried to attack Sting, while Miro laid in the ring taunting Allin. As the show went off the air Lance Archer made his way from the back, seemingly challenging Miro to a fight for his newly won prize.

Next week: Christian Cage vs Matt Sydal, Varsity Blonds vs The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championship and more!
